History

Chiang Mai Airport began operations in 1934 and was later renamed Chiang Mai Airport. It has become a gateway to the Lanna region and Northern Thailand.

 

Located in Chiang Mai Province, Chiang Mai Airport serves as a “Gateway to Lanna Heritage,” guiding travelers to the beautiful natural landscapes and rich cultural history of Northern Thailand. The airport also provides convenient access to other Northern provinces such as Mae Hong Son, Lamphun, and Lampang, and can serve as a gateway to Myanmar.

 

In 2017, Chiang Mai Airport accommodated a total of 9.9 million passengers, with 2.1 million international passengers and 7.7 million domestic passengers. The majority of international travelers using Chiang Mai Airport are from China, Malaysia, and South Korea, primarily visiting for leisure and tourism purposes.
